This work is scheduled to be carried out by Norfolk County Council on Friday 6th March 2026. If for any reason the work can't be completed on this date it will be completed on Monday 9th or Tuesday 10th March.
When the painting is being carried out one side of the carriageway will be closed to enable safe working.

Spring in Fleggburgh Parish
In October 2025 Fleggburgh Parish Councillors and volunteers planted around 4000 bulbs in our villages. The bulbs were generously paid for by Great Yarmouth Borough Councillor Adrian Thompson. Adrian is also a Filby Parish Councillor and has been heavily involved in helping Filby win the 'Village' category of the Britain In Bloom competition on a number of occasions.

Fleggburgh Parish Council hopes that you will see the benefit of these bulbs in the Spring months.
Fleggburgh Parish Council also undertakes the grass cutting in the churchyard at St Margaret's Church, Fleggburgh and in the churchyard at St Peter's Church, Clippesby. This work will commence in March as soon as the grass is dry enough to cut.

Closed Burial Ground on Village Hall Side of Main Road, Fleggburgh A1064

Thank you to all the volunteers who have worked with Fleggburgh Parish Councillors on the first Saturday of each month at 9.30am for the last 6 months. The improvement of this area has been immense and many memorials have been revealed which were previously covered by grass and overgrowth. The volunteers' work continues on the first Saturday of each month and the next session is on Saturday 7th March at 9.30am. All are welcome.
Arthur Jary & Sons are carrying out repair work on 28 memorials to ensure that they remain safe. This work and the tree work referred to below has been paid for by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
In the near future work will begin on the trees in the Burial Ground. The tree population consists of large mature oak trees and some imposing monkey puzzle specimens. All these trees are subject to a Tree Preservation Order and the work has been identified with the assistance of Great Yarmouth Borough Council's Arboricultural Officer. Not only will the work make the trees safe but also prolong their life.

St Margaret's Church Closed Burial Ground
-
The Closed Burial Ground is on the south side of the A1064 opposite the church and the Kings Arms.
-
This Burial Ground is described as Closed as no further burials will take place. However it will remain open to the public who wish to visit and pay their respects to loved ones.
-
Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC) is solely responsible for all aspects of maintenance including the memorials, trees, hedges, fencing and the gate.
-
Since September 2025 FPC volunteers have undertaken voluntary work on the first Saturday of each month to ensure that all memorials are accessible. The next volunteers session is on Saturday 7th March 2026 with work starting at 9.30am. All are welcome.
-
GYBC has agreed to:
-
Carry out an inspection of all trees in the Burial Ground and to undertake any work identified.
-
Carry out an inspection of all memorials and repair those where necessary. The recent memorial inspection has identified 28 memorials requiring repair to meet health and safety requirements. The notice below has been attached to those memorials where work will take place.

New Bus Shelter to be Installed on North Side of A1064
%20(1).jpg)
At the Fleggburgh Parish Council (FPC) meeting on
17 September 2025 Great Yarmouth Borough Councillor Adrian Thompson mentioned that some bus passengers had drawn his attention to the fact that there was no bus shelter in Fleggburgh village to protect passengers travelling in the direction of Caister. Adrian also reminded the meeting that the frequency of buses and the daily start and end times of the services running had been increased.
However it was initially felt that the footpath was too narrow to accommodate a bus shelter. FPC discussed this with a number of bus shelter suppliers and one supplier suggested a cantilever bus shelter similar to that shown in the picture. The supplier then carried out a site survey and it was concluded that a cantilever bus shelter would work in this position.
FPC then contacted Norfolk County Council (NCC) and obtained funding for 80% of the cost of the bus shelter and its installation. FPC then worked with the supplier to meet the requirements of St Margaret's Church as the shelter would be very close to the church's flint wall.
Finally it was agreed by all parties that a cantilever shelter with removable back panels (to allow maintenance of the church wall if necessary) would be installed. FPC obtained the necessary Street Furniture Licence. The bus shelter which will include both a flagpole and a timetable panel, is expected to be installed by the end of April 2026. Furthermore the carriageway will be marked out with a 'bus cage' to make certain that vehicles do not park in the vicinity of the bus stop. This project is a great example of an issue being identified by members of the public, shared with a borough councillor, and a solution being found by the Parish Council supported by the church and by funding from NCC.
If you identify any projects you believe can transform the public realm please contact FPC.

New Bike Racks at Fleggburgh Village Hall

During the recent Fleggburgh Village Hall car park extension application a member of the public commented that there were no bike racks on the Village Hall estate. Fleggburgh Parish Council as the owner of the land noted this and worked with the Village Hall committee to address this omission. We are all very much in favour of encouraging cycling whenever possible. With the help of 80% funding from Norfolk County Council and the remaining 20% from Great Yarmouth Borough Councillor Adrian Thompson we were able to secure all the monies to install the bike racks pictured. No cost has been borne by Fleggburgh Parish Council as a result of these generous donations.
This is a great example of Fleggburgh Parish Council working in collaboration with Fleggburgh Village Hall and with the support of two different councils to improve facilities in the public realm. Fleggburgh Parish Council is committed to working with Fleggburgh Village Hall to improve their facilities. This project also demonstrates the value of input from members of the public in identifying what is needed in our community. If you feel there is anything that Fleggburgh Parish Council should be addressing please do not hesitate to get in touch.

A47 Road Closure

Road Closure on A1064 Main Road, Fleggburgh - Carriageway Resurfacing
Norfolk County Council plans to undertake essential carriageway resurfacing works on the A1046 Main Road within Fleggburgh, from a point 50 metres south of the Tower Road junction to a point 550 metres south of the Tower Road junction. Please see site location plan showing the areas being resurfaced.
The work will see the old, damaged road surface removed and a new asphalt surface laid. The work is expected to take 4 nights to complete weather permitting and will be carried out from Wednesday 26 November 2025 to Sunday 30 November 2025 between 7pm and 5am.
To safely complete the works all roads at the junction will need to be closed to through traffic between 7pm and 5am. Vehicular access to properties within the road closure will be maintained and a signed diversion route will be in place whilst the roads are closed.
The diversion routes for the roadworks are as follows:
Closure on A1064 Main Road, Fleggburgh – from a point approximately 50 metres south of its junction with Tower Road to a point approximately 550 metres south of the same junction.
Diversion Route: Starting from the west side near Billockby, drivers will leave the A1064 Main Road and turn north onto the B1152 Main Road. The diversion continues straight along the B1152, passing through the villages of Clippesby and Rollesby. At Rollesby, the route joins the A149 High Road, heading east towards the village of Ormesby St Margaret. After passing through Ormesby St Margaret, drivers should continue on the A149 until reaching Filby Heath, where the route turns south to rejoin the A1064 Main Road. This completes the diversion loop around the closed section of road between Fleggburgh and Filby.
The County Council would like to thank people for their patience while these works are carried out.
The work which will cost approximately £120,000 will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Infrastructure Department and their contractors.

In addition some footpath users alerted us to particular issues when using the footpaths and we are endeavouring to address these.

Volunteers Needed – Help Keep Our Churchyard Beautiful
A message from Councillor David Flowerdew
Hi everyone,
We’re looking for a few kind-hearted volunteers who’d be willing to help keep the disused churchyard in Burgh St Margaret neat and tidy. Although it’s no longer in use, it remains an important part of our village’s history and a peaceful green space that deserves a little care.
If you’d be happy to lend a hand now and then – whether it’s mowing, strimming, litter picking, or general upkeep – we’d love to hear from you. Many hands make light work!
Please comment below or send me a message by email cllrflowerdewfpc@gmail.com if you’re interested. Let’s come together to keep this special place looking its best
